Welcome to Arabic Musical Scales
Anyone who plays or who wants to learn Arabic Music soon discovers that it is essential to learn the ancient Arabic Musical Scales.
These scales are not well-tempered like Western music scales and they are incredibly beautiful.
I have studied and performed Arabic music for 25 years now and am always exploring new modulations from scales to scale. Currently favorite modulations for taqasims (improvisations) involve moving from Bayati to Rahat el Arawah to Yaka to Hijaz. The tonic moves from D to B half-flat to G and back to D.
Whether you are a performer who wishes to share your latest discoveries or you are a beginner, please feel free to make this blog a happening place!
